We need your legal data in order to make sure we can legally pay you. We might have to withhold tax on your behalf: read more here. What is the difference between the account types Individual, Self-employed and Corporation?
Account type: individual
If you are an individual, you are not tax-registered and you are not doing your own tax-return. You are not a 'legal person' and you are unable to give invoices. Individuals will be asked to file and fill in a W8 / W9 form.
Account type: self-employed / sole proprietor
If you are able to give invoices and do your own tax-return, you are probably self-employed / sole trader / sole proprietor. You are a legal person: your legal name is either your own name (it is common in the UK) or you have a business name. Self-employed authors are welcome to use the platform, and will be asked to file and fill in a W8 / W9 form.
The fields 'VAT registered?' and 'Registration number' are mandatory. If you don't have a registration number, please enter any identification number commonly used in your country in that field, eg. your tax reference number or your EIN.
Account type: company
Publishing companies have a registered company entity with valid TAX ID. We try to validate all companies ourselves using official databases. Companies will be asked to file and fill in a W8 / W9 form.
